HOW TO SPEND ANZAC DAY IN 2019
ANZAC Day is just around the corner. Here are a few things you can do to commemorate this year.
Dawn service
Every year on the 25th of April, a Dawn Service is held to pay respect to the men and women who have served and continue to serve our nation.
This year, the Dawn Service will be held at the State War Memorial in Kings Park and Botanic Garden from 5:50am to 6:30am. For more information on travel and what to bring, click here.
Red Poppies
Do you see people wearing red poppies during ANZAC Day commemorative events? Red poppies were the first flower to bloom on the battlefields of Northern France and Belgium during the First World War.
Today, these red flowers are a symbol of remembrance, and creates hope.
ANZAC Biscuits
Who doesn’t love ANZAC biscuits? They are so good! It’s the perfect snack to commemorate ANZAC Day. But do you know why we eat ANZAC biscuits for ANZAC Day?
During the WW1, the friends and families of soldiers would send care packages overseas. The food had to be resistant to spoilage and full of nutrition. So, biscuits were made from rolled oats, sugar, flour, coconut, butter, and a few other ingredients to be sent. Today, ANZAC biscuits are one of the few products to use the ANZAC acronym, protected by Federal Legislation.
