MARKETING TIPS: KNOWING YOUR OBJECTIVES AND POSITIONING

Do you know what objectives and positioning statements are? Well, you are in luck! We are here to give you a basic understanding of what these terms mean for you and how they relate to the creative work we do for our clients.

But, first things first. Let’s deal with the elephant in the room. We are not marketing experts by all means. But we work hand in hand with marketers.

So, we will be talking about these concepts from a creative perspective to show you how we do things and what we can achieve for our clients.

What are Objectives?

Your marketing objectives are a group of goals that support your overarching, long-term goals. They are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound (or in other words - SMART objectives).

For instance, an objective could be to increase Instagram post engagement by 10% from August to December 2020. That’s just an example. But you can see that it specifies what you want to achieve, has a measurable figure and is time-bound.

When clients approach us for photo or video content, it is important they have clear objectives outlined for each video or photo they want to be created. Sometimes we can fall into a trap of thinking we know our objectives. But really, we don’t. Every video has different objectives. One might be to increase reach with your target market. Another may be to promote a message or build your brand credibility. So, it’s important to know what you want to achieve from that content.

If you don’t set clear objectives, it’s hard for you to achieve the marketing goals you set in the first place.

What is A Positioning Statement?

Positioning is essentially how you want to be perceived by your customers and differentiate yourself from your competitors.

It is important to come up with a positioning statement when you start up your business and keep it on record in your business or marketing strategy. Your positioning can change overtime, especially if you decide to rebrand or reposition yourself.

You positioning should be clear and communicated to your media team. We need to understand how you want to be positioned and your brand values. That way, we can amplify your brand message and positioning in our projects we create for you. It wouldn’t make a lot of sense to ask a videographer to produce a video for your website without knowing how you want your target audience to perceive you and what you want to achieve from the content.
