LEST WE FORGET - REMEMBERING THE ANZACS

ANZAC Day 2020

Despite the cancellation of the formal Anzac Dawn Services due to COVID-19, there’s nothing to stop us from remembering the Anzacs from the comfort of our home. Here are some ways you can show your respects whilst abiding by the government restrictions.

Play the Last Post on your driveway

People are encouraged to perform the traditional Last Post at the end of their driveway at 6am on Anzac Day. And it doesn’t have to be the Trumpet! If you can carry the tune, people are encouraged to play any instrument they have from a saxophone to a violin!

Wear a red poppy

Red poppies were the first flower to bloom on the battlefields of Northern France and Belgium during the First World War. Today, these red flowers are a symbol of remembrance, and creates hope. If you have a red poppy or can get your hands on one, wear it this Anzac Day to show your respect, even if no one actually sees you wearing it.

Bake ANZAC BISCUITS

Apart from the classic choc chip cookie, Anzac biscuits are by far one of the most delicious. It’s the perfect snack to commemorate Anzac Day. These biscuits hold a lot of history and significance. During the WW1, the friends and families of soldiers would send care packages overseas. The food had to be resistant to spoilage and full of nutrition. So, they sent biscuits made from rolled oats, sugar, flour, coconut, butter, and a few other ingredients.

To keep busy during isolation, you can find an easy recipe online and bake fresh cookies for yourself. Alternatively, Get Chunky have a limited edition Anzac Cookie available.

You will also find packets of baked cookies at your local supermarket. Enjoy with a nice cup of tea.
