ENTERTAINING YOURSELF DURING SELF-ISOLATION

Are you social distancing? In light of COVID-19, we are urged to limit our interaction with others and work from home where possible. To help you keep busy and entertained while you self-isolate, we share some ideas to make staying at home fun and productive for you.

Here’s what you can do at home:

Clean out your wardrobe

Have you been postponing a wardrobe spring clean? There’s no better time to start decluttering with extra time up your sleeves. It gives you an opportunity to ditch those clothes you’ve been hoarding for years and coordinate your wardrobe. You could categories it by colour or style, for example dresses, tops, skirts, pants, jackets etc. You can organise it based on whatever system works best for you, and cuts down your time to get ready in the morning. Bag up the clothes you no longer have use for and put them aside to donate them to charity.

Organise your house

Many of us don’t have the time to frequently clean and re-organise our house. There’s no better time than now to get organising. Take the opportunity to organise your house from your kitchen, laundry to your garden. From cleaning out your cupboards to planting some herbs in your garden, you will feel invigorated and a new lease of life getting on top of these must do tasks.

Get fit from Home

With gyms and fitness centres closing down due to COVID-19, many people are left wondering how they should exercise. Why not workout from home! There’s so many exercises you can do from home like squats, lunges, push-ups and more. All you need is a bit of space.

If you don’t have much gym equipment like a treadmill or weights, you can incorporate heavy items like books, a bag of rice or flour. You can use resources from YouTube or your favourite fitness guru to help motivate and inspire you with exercises. If you have stairs, imagine they are Jacob’s Ladder (that will get you working out hard).

Read a Good Book

Have you got an unread book sitting on your shelve? Now is the time to take out a novel, sit back with a cuppa and get swept up in the story. If you haven’t got a book a home, hit the bookstores and grab a couple of books to keep you going through this time.

Smash out some Netflix

Netflix is always a good option, no matter what the situation. With so many TV shows, movies, documentaries and more, Netflix will help you get through all the madness with so many options to keep you going.

Join TikTok

TikTok, a prominent social media platform today, is a great distraction amongst all the chaos. It can be both an informative platform, but also give you a laugh and something to engage on. Whether you have fun filming your own videos, or amuse yourself with others, TikTok could be a great distraction for you.

Learn to cook

Have you ran out of time to cook your favourite dishes or maybe don’t know how to cook? Now’s the perfect opportunity to get acquainted with your kitchen and utensils. If you’re spending more time indoors, there’s no excuse you can’t learn to cook or bake those delicious desserts you’ve been longing to perfect. Grab yourself a couple of recipe books or research some recipes online to get yourself started.

Learn a Language

If you have extra time up your sleeve, why not learn a language? Might as well tick off those tasks from your list that you’ve been longing to do but never had enough time to complete. What language do you want to learn?

Do online learning

Increase your productivity and knowledge while you’re indoors by doing online learning. Whether that is furthering your knowledge and skills by watching videos, doing research or even doing online courses, this is a great way to keep your mind active while you’re in self-quarantine.

Learn an instrument

How many of you can play a musical instrument? Now is the perfect time to add that talent to your belt. You can learn almost anything from the World Wide Web and YouTube. So, utilise these platforms from you home to learn new things.

Create a photo album

Do you have photos lying around from past travel adventures or events? Keep yourself occupied by creating a photo album or scrapbook of all your memories. Even though it will create some nostalgia and make you want to relive those moments, soon enough, you will be back outdoors and can create many more memories for your album.

Practice Self-care

More so now than ever, it is important to practice self-care. From Yoga to meditation or even dancing out to a good tune, do something they helps calm your mind and body from all the present day stresses.
